We need reminders that money on earth is only worth what we put value to. Imagine if our value was in more than an idea that paper can buy us things but that wealth is achieved when we spend time with family and help our neighbors through any issue. I need constant reminding not to store up riches on earth but trust there are greater rewards in Heaven. Be good stewards of God's gifts and resources!

When you don't know what to pray for or how to pray, remember God sent his Spirit as a guide to help nudge us in the right direction.....listen to the small quiet voice in your heart that only comes from God

Mistakes Encouragement

Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way. (James 3:2 NLT)

Why do we make the same mistakes over and over again? Why do we allow ourselves to promise to change, but then make no effort to do so? If we can clearly see our mistakes as we are acting in them, why do we still continue?

God tries to change us from the inside out, and even though our mistakes are an example of our basic sinful nature, we need the Holy Spirit to help give self-control.

Healing Encouragement

Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones. (Proverbs 3:8 NLT)

God heal my family as they battle illnesses and pain that would infect their bodies. Give wisdom to those doctors that would aide in the healing process! We believe that your WORD is truth and healing power is available when we call out for it!

Forgiveness Encouragement

Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. (Colossians 3:13 NLT)

What I love about this verse is the reminder that we are not perfect but yet grace was extended to us, so shouldn't we extend this same grace to others?

I have learned over time, that trying to please others always leaves the other something or someone not pleased. So don't focus on who might I offend today by my choices, but rather have a mindset that I will please God each and everyday; and everything/everyone else will see your grace and love in those choices you have made.

I want to be able to lead my Twinkies on a path that demonstrates love, grace, and forgiveness each and every day. Although I think I might always be right or that everything around me should be perfect, the best example to do good works is to show my family and friends that perfection does not come with controlling my circumstances but letting God control the impossible

Stand your ground; rely on truth, even when everything you feel would tell you to do the opposite. Let the foundation of your life be rooted in Christ and you will not be uprooted; although times you might feel chopped to pieces...you'll always have an opportunity to grow, since the roots are still in its place and the chopping never got to the roots of steadfast truth!

Prayer Encouragement

There are times I have felt worn down, tired, and unable to give anymore...yet when I cry out in prayer...God hears and listens. When we pray, we hear God's spirit speak a language of comfort and guidance. We learn our relationship grows stronger each and every time we speak to God!

My prayer is that my daughters will find God's perfect partner for their lives and remind all married couples that marriage only works when God is the center! Congrats to my In laws for 40 years of marriage and for my cousin Amanda who is just beginning her marriage journey!

Hold on to love each and every day. As I love beyond myself, I am able to see the inner workings of God's spirit. God is love and he wanted us to experience just a glimpse of how he feels about us when we were created. As much as I love my family and my Twinkies beyond description....it's amazing to me that my demonstration of love to my husband and Twinkies is not even a measurable amount of God's infinite love!!! Pretty amazing when you try to think about the vastness of how much love God has!!!

Amazing when God reminds me of a truth when I need it most. I've struggled with maintaining the perfect weight... But what is truly perfect on the outside. We allow society so many times to dictate outer beauty that we forget that our whole body should be a living sacrifice to God

Peace and holiness, how do we implement these values in everyday life? I think having peace that only God can provide, leads to a holy life because when I truly think about how my circumstances teach me how to learn to be peaceful, then in the process I become a better person

This morning as I was speeding to work and Now have the speeding ticket to prove it....where was God?, why wasn't I spared from getting a ticket? Aren't I a good person? Shouldn't have someone else got the ticket? These questions seem so silly to ask for a behavior that I demonstrated and how presumptuous to think my behaviors don't have consequences, even though I have good reasons/excuses for behaving the way that I do. It's laughable...not for breaking the law and speeding, but because sometimes we think we are invincible.

If we truly believe that God will lead us to our best pathway to life, then we have to accept the fact that our life will not be perfect because God never promised that life will be perfect but that ONLY his son Jesus, who is perfect, can lead us and watch over us in this life.

Christ Center Encouragement

For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority. (Colossians 2:9, 10 NLT)

Reminded today that Christ should always remain the center of your life and everything else will surround the center; therefore all other aspects of life can't workout unless Christ remains in the center

Trust Encouragement

Trust in the LORD with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. (Proverbs 3:5, 6 NLT)

For some people it's hard to trust beyond ourselves because we think this will prevent us from getting hurt, but the reality about trust is that we actually learn what trust feels like after being hurt. Trusting God during a time when everything around you seems to fall apart is what God wants, because then he knows that we finally got the idea that we can't do it alone

Teamwork Encouragement

He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. (Ephesians 4:16 NLT)

Reflecting on this past week and seeing how many times teams of people have succeeded....from teams at the Olympic 2012 Summer Games in London to the teams of families that you are a part of as a wife, friend, mother, sister, or son/daughter....I see God use his power by demonstrating to us that we cannot live life alone and show love for others without being part of a team

Frustration Encouragement

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. (Psalm 34:18 NLT)

How many times in your life time do you feel frustrated or crushed by the weight of your circumstances? How many times have you question where am I going and why haven't I gotten there yet? Sometimes you feel everything is so routine and there is no spark to urge you forward. I have to think that God will restore my Spirit with newness that gives me a better perspective on my current circumstances.

Submission Encouragement

“Submit to God, and you will have peace; then things will go well for you. (Job 22:21 NLT)

We often think the word "submission" is a horrible word...we think the word lacks power. I would say on the contrary...."submission" is power!!! I believe it's the most powerful action someone can display. Think about it, if you decide to submit to something or someone by choice...that thing or someone cannot control you because you give up willingly to submit...and the reward is Peace, according to God.

Truth Encouragement

For you are God, O Sovereign LORD. Your words are truth, and you have promised these good things to your servant. (2 Samuel 7:28 NLT)

To know truth by itself is not enough, it's what you do with the truth that counts. I can know without a doubt that something is accurate because it has already been proven, but yet when the truth is challenged, I pray that God strengthen me to have the courage to to stand up and acknowledge to others that HIS Truth is everlasting!

Grace encouragement

Because of his grace he declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.” (Titus 3:7 NLT)

Grace definition by webster's dictionary:
a. A disposition to be generous or helpful; goodwill.
b. Mercy; clemency.

Truly our God is generous and helpful, we should be thankful for his mercy!

Healing Encouragement

Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones. (Proverbs 3:8 NLT)

As I reflect on those that I love with illnesses, I can only continue for the healing power of Christ's cleansing blood to flow through the veins and bodies that are sick and who need healing...have unwavering faith that the pain will not last but just for a brief moment while you are on earth, because with eternity you will not feel such pain

Burden Encouragement

Give your burdens to the LORD,
and he will take care of you.

How often do we think that I can handle this, I don't need help from anyone...this will never get fixed? Trust that God's promises remain true since the beginning of time.....he has always been with us and he will not let you slip!

Love Encouragement

Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. (1 Peter 4:8 NLT)

When we hurt, the last thing we want to do is demonstrate love. Betrayal, grief, pain (physical and emotional), and guilt, are all feelings that hinder us from showing and receiving love. If it is true that love covers all sins...then forgiveness is the by-product of experiencing and demonstrating love, even for those sins that appear to be the unimaginable

False Encouragement

When the people saw how long it was taking Moses to come back down the mountain, they gathered around Aaron. “Come on,” they said, “make us some gods who can lead us. We don’t know what happened to this fellow Moses, who brought us here from the land of Egypt.” (Exodus 32:1 NLT)

There are so many times we allow ourselves to be fooled with the newest fad or latest gimmick that tries to convince us that "we have all the answers to your problems," but in reality I've learned that all things, ideas, and great intentions will eventually wash away if God does not remain the center of it ALL and when we aren't willing to be patient.

Trust me, I know this feeling of not being patient and letting my will overcome me....the outcome is very different, when I finally gave in and let God overcome me :-)

Freedom Encouragement

Mission of Motherhood: Ch 4 The Servant Mother

The Model of a Servant Leader

Following Jesus as the perfect model of becoming a Servant Leader: “Not only had he told them (his disciples) that whoever wanted to be first must be a servant to all, but he (Jesus) also shown them personally what servant leadership was all about.” Jesus did this at the Last Supper before his crucifixion, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and reminded them of his service by ministering to their deepest needs, even while Jesus was about to face the ultimate sacrifice on the cross with his life to save us.

Choosing to Lay Down our Lives

“This means as mothers we have to choose to serve Christ by giving our time and energy to our children-not just when we feel like it or when they need it.” This means to give up our personal desires to demonstrate to our children the “purpose of giving and modeling of Christ’s love.” A reminder verse that Sally Clarkson references is John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”

Serving without Resentment

“God doesn’t want you to resent your children for taking up your time or make you feel guilty for sacrifices you made on your children’s behalf; Rather we are called to give up our rights simply out of love for Jesus.”

Serving with our Time

As mothers we need to come to the realization that giving our children time is part of serving them. When we learn this practice, we become more relaxed and opened to the joys of being with our children.

Serving with a Godly Attitude

Serving with a joyful and Godly Attitude “can ONLY be done when we walk in the power of the Holy Spirit.” Our children need their mothers to be “a mature Christian, to walk by faith that God is in control, allowing his Spirit to give mothers peace and joy in the midst of life’s inevitable ups and downs.” “Mothers need to recognize the powerful effect of our attitude has on our children.”

The Rewards of Servanthood

As mothers you will find these special moments throughout your children’s lives, when they write a special note of thanks, or complete a household chore without asking, or just simply saying thank you in ways only children know how to do…with an unforgettable smile, hug, & kiss. The rewards will be seen in your children’s behaviors, actions, and service to others…..then you will know without doubt, that all the time and sacrifice was well Worth it!!! Isn’t it exactly what Christ sees in his children, when we get it right???

My Personal Reflection

I will say in my 10 years of motherhood thus far, with Two Beautiful, Awesome Twin Daughters, it’s been challenging, rewarding, life changing, and humbling all wrapped in Two. I have learned on many occasions on how my children seem to amaze and surprise me with wonders beyond imagine. Yet there are times they can try my patience to the very limits of the earth. I would agree with Sally Clarkson that God meant Servant Motherhood to be exactly the way we experience it, with ups and downs and several spiral turns in between. Through it all, mothers’ characteristics shine and shine BEST through OUR children. I thank God daily for the chance to experience the feeling of accomplishment and greatness when our children get it right. But also the sorrow with the life lessons learned through choices our children make. I know through our Faith, in the End of it all, that God will be the center of their very existence and the seeds planted now will not waver their God given potential for the future. I continue to pray that our children see our Service to Christ, so they can emulate the very values we try to teach them daily through our words and actions.

July 23, 2012-Encouragement through weakness

"Each Time He said, My Grace is all you need, My Power works best in weakness, so now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me." 2 Cor 12:9
